According to Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita, reported on September 26 local time, the proposed permanent military base in Poland named “Fort Trump” is expected to cost up to 17 billion Polish zlotys (approximately $4.4 billion), and could be operational as early as 2029.
According to reports cited by the Polish National Security Agency, negotiations with the United States involve the establishment of a permanent base that can accommodate approximately 5,000 soldiers. Previously, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated that the military facilities in this plan could accommodate about 10,000 soldiers, while the current number of U.S. troops stationed in Poland is around 7,000.
Last week, Sikorski said in New York that as a NATO member state and a country on the frontline of the Russo-Ukrainian conflict, Poland is close to reaching an agreement with the United States regarding the permanent deployment of US military forces. Polish President Karol Nawrocki revealed to Bloomberg TV that if the two countries finalize the agreement, the base will be named "Trump Fort".
However, Sikorski stated on September 24th that naming a new U.S. military base in Poland after U.S. President Trump would be both an insult and risky. He also added that he would prefer to name this new military base after the 40th U.S. President, Ronald Reagan.
Bloomberg noted that these US-Portugal negotiations took place against the backdrop of widespread concerns in Europe that Washington might reduce its military presence on the European continent.
"Republic of Poland newspaper" will determine the specific location for the permanent base, which will depend on the type of U.S. military stationed in Poland. Currently under consideration are locations including Wroclaw, Poznan, and areas near Szczecin, all located in western Poland compared to Ukraine, they are closer to Germany.
