Bulgaria Halts Weapons Supplies to Ukraine

According to Russian Satellite News Agency, Bulgarian Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov said on September 9 local time that the Bulgarian government plans to stop supplying weapons to the Ukrainian army.

Stoyanov said at a press conference on the 9th, "What they (Kiev) need are people, not weapons... What we see is a battle on the ground. No matter how much weapons they accumulate, the result will only be the death of people."

Stoyanov took up his post in May this year, and he supports Ukraine's position. Bulgarian Prime Minister Radev has repeatedly opposed providing military assistance to Ukraine and has advocated for a re-evaluation of Europe's approach to the Ukraine conflict, focusing on diplomatic solutions.

According to reports, Bulgaria is the only NATO country capable of producing ammunition for the old Soviet weapons that Ukraine uses. Therefore, Bulgaria has become a major supplier to the Ukrainian military. Since 2022, Bulgaria has provided Ukraine with 13 batches of military aid, but the value and specific details of these supplies have not been made public.
