Iran Begins Drafting Fees for Hormuz Strait Traffic

According to Iran's Tasnim News Agency report on the 7th, Iran's Vice President and Director of the Environmental Protection Agency, Hina Ansari, stated that Iran has begun the process of drafting the 'Holsham Strait Environmental Service Fee Regulations'. The preliminary draft has been completed recently, but the fee standards and specific collection mechanisms have not yet been finalized.

In a media interview, Ansari said that the proposed measures involve not only environmental fees, but also maritime security, safety services, and environmental services provided by coastal countries to transiting vessels. The specific framework and final pricing are still in the research phase.

She stated that some of the fees are related to the environmental impact caused by ship traffic and the risks posed to marine ecosystems. The related services may include ship guidance and navigation, maritime signal services, traffic monitoring, and measures to prevent marine environmental pollution.

Ansari believes that the Hormuz Strait falls under the territorial waters and sovereignty of Iran and Oman. Coastal countries have the right to charge fees for services related to maintaining navigation safety, regional security, and environmental protection.

She explained that the drafting of the relevant regulations began about two weeks ago. After the draft is submitted to the Iranian Environmental Agency for review and approval, it will be sent to the relevant authorities for completing the subsequent legal procedures.
