US Strikes Iranian Targets After Attacks, Oil Prices Surge

The US Central Command posted a statement on social media on September 1st local time, stating that at noon on September 1st Eastern Time, the US military began targeting targets of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in Iran. The US Central Command claimed that this operation was carried out after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps attempted to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and deploy US troops in the region.

U.S. President Trump posted on social media, stating that the strike was large in scale and intense in effect, as retaliation for two provocative actions by Iran: first, Iran's attempt to lay mines in the Hormuz Strait; second, Iran's launch of eight missiles at American military bases in Jordan.

Trump also said that if Iran retaliates against this strike, they will face even more severe and high-level attacks.

According to Xinhua News Agency reports, as of the close of the day, the price of light crude oil futures for delivery in October on the New York Mercantile Exchange rose by $4.46 to $90.22 per barrel, representing a increase of 5.20%. The price of London Brent crude oil futures for delivery in November rose by $4.16 to $94.65 per barrel, representing an increase of 4.60%.

Jiasheng Group's senior analyst Faber Razakzada said that the recent rise in oil prices is mainly due to the escalation of tensions between the United States and Iran. Traders currently ignore the disputed oil reserve transactions between the United States and Venezuela. The recent trend of oil prices still depends heavily on the supply side.
