Heihe-Bragovissensk Cross-Border Cable Car Project Completes Construction

According to Xinhua News Agency, on August 2, Zhang Qijun, the deputy director of the Heihe District Management Committee of China's Heilongjiang Free Trade Pilot Zone, announced at the 2026 Sun Island Annual Meeting for Entrepreneurs that the main construction of the first cross-border cable car project between Russia and China, the Heihe-Bragovissensk Cross-Heilongjiang Cross-border Passenger Cable Car Project, has been completed. The entire project is expected to be finished by this year.

As one of the landmark projects for cross-border cooperation between China and Russia, the Chinese construction site of the cross-border cable car project is located on Daehe River Island in Heihe City, Heilongjiang Province. The construction party is Heihe Jinlonggang Construction and Development Co., Ltd.; the Russian construction site is located in the riverside area of the center of Blagoveshchensk, Russia. The project began construction in July 2019.

Zhang Qijun said that Heihe City and Blagoveščenskaya City are separated by a river, with the closest distance being only about 750 meters. There is close economic and trade interaction as well as cultural exchanges between the two cities. After the completion of the cross-border cable car, Heihe City will establish a three-dimensional cross-border transportation system consisting of 'bridges, ferries, and cable cars', which will drive the coordinated development of industries such as tourism, logistics, and commerce in the border areas of both countries.

According to the Russian TASS, the cableway is 976 meters long and has two carriages. Each carriage can carry 110 passengers, with a travel time of about 6 minutes per trip. The cableway operates at a maximum speed of 12 meters per second, with schedules set to run every 15 minutes. The annual design capacity is 2.6 million passenger trips in one direction, which will significantly improve the efficiency of personnel exchanges between China and Russia.

According to the Russian 'News Net', after the cableway is completed, Heihe will have a three-tier cross-border transportation system consisting of 'bridges + ferries + cableways', which will contribute to the coordinated development of tourism, logistics, and trade in the border areas between China and Russia.
