On the evening of August 1st local time, US President Donald Trump posted on his social media platform ‘Real Social’ stating that the United States was ‘ready with loaded bullets and in full readiness’ to take action against Iran. His military deterrence, strength, and power have reached ‘a level never seen since World War II’.
However, Trump said that Iran and other Middle Eastern countries have just requested the United States to postpone launching attacks, on the grounds that all parties have reached an agreement on the framework of a deal. The framework will include “immediate, complete, and comprehensive opening of the Strait of Hormuz,” as well as ending Iran’s nuclear threat.
Trump said that, based on this request, and for the sake of “the future well-being of the world” and the continued survival of a successful and prosperous Iran, he has agreed to cancel the attack, provided that all parties can reach an agreement quickly. He also said that Israel has joined this commitment, and urged all relevant parties to immediately begin completing the agreement. Trump did not disclose the specific details of the agreement or the negotiation timeline in his post.
Previously, it was reported that the United States and Israel were considering launching a new round of large-scale attacks against Iran, with potential targets including power plants, refineries, and other energy infrastructure facilities. Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed Bin Salman, spoke with Trump on August 1, urging the US not to further escalate military actions against Iran.
Iran has previously warned that if the United States launches another attack, Iran will retaliate against the energy facilities of Israel and Gulf countries. As tensions escalate, embassies of the United States in Iraq, Jordan, and the UAE have warned local Americans to stay alert and to prepare for flight cancellations or further deterioration of the situation.
