On July 8 local time, Hungarian Prime Minister Mátyás stated during the NATO summit that Hungary would not provide weapons to Ukraine, nor send military personnel.
According to Russian Tass, Mokyal said to reporters on that day, "We will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukraine. But as I have said many times before, Hungary will not provide weapons to Ukraine, nor will it send troops."
However, when talking about the position of the new Hungarian government towards the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Májai said that Ukraine is a "victim," and that the country "has the right to defend its territory and territorial integrity."
He also revealed that he had a brief discussion with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy and agreed to hold bilateral meetings in the near future.
