Modi and Abe Hold Talks: India-Japan Relations Flourish Amidst Cultural Exchange

According to Kyodo News and the Indian New Delhi Television (NDTV), on July 2 local time, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The discussions covered trade and investment, economic security, energy, emerging technologies, defense, and cultural exchanges.

On that day, Modi referred to Gao as “my sister” twice.

At the joint press conference, when talking about the meeting between the two, Gao said: "Just now you called me your beautiful sister. We agreed during the meeting to continue our relationship as siblings."

Regarding this, some netizens commented that in geopolitics, there are no 'brothers and sisters', only national interests.

Sources familiar with the matter revealed that Modi's use of "Koshi" refers to a previous conversation between the two. During their meeting that day, Koshi mentioned that she has always regarded former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe as her "big brother," because she is younger than him. She also added that she now regards Modi as her big brother as well.

On that day, Masayoshi Ozu, Deputy Chief of the Japanese Cabinet Office, told reporters that Abe and Modi have established a deep trust relationship, and the current talks have ‘created new trust’.

A photo posted on the official social media account of the Japanese Cabinet Information Officer on July 2 showed that at a lunch hosted by Modi, Gao played the traditional Indian stringed instrument santur. Modi smiled and applauded from the side.
