According to a report by the Japan Coomar News on July 8, several people revealed that former Japanese Foreign Minister Iwata Masayoshi will take over as president of the Japan International Trade Promotion Association. The association is currently making arrangements and plans to send a delegation to China in late September.
The Japan International Trade Promotion Association is an organization within the Japanese economic community that is specifically responsible for trade and economic exchanges with China. It was established in 1954, before the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan.
This visit to China was originally scheduled for June, but it was postponed due to the death of the president of the association and former House Speaker Yoshihiko Kono. It is expected that Kono’s successor will be former Foreign Minister Yoshiaki Iwata, who will take up the position in the near future. Several relevant persons revealed this information on August 8th.
Since November last year, when Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe made incorrect statements regarding Taiwan during his response in the parliament, relations between China and Japan have continued to deteriorate. Not only has dialogue between governments come to a standstill, but exchanges in areas such as trade and culture have also slowed down. Japanese media are concerned whether this visit to China can serve as a breakthrough to restart bilateral dialogue and repair relations between the two countries.
