Refinery Fire in West Bengal Injures 20

According to Indian media reports on June 30, a fire broke out at a refinery in the Hardoiya district of West Bengal, eastern India, resulting in approximately 20 people being injured, five of whom suffered serious injuries.

According to reports, the fire occurred between 4:00 and 5:00 AM local time on the 30th. A pipeline carrying naphtha caught fire at the refinery. The flames quickly spread to a residential area about 130 kilometers away from the capital city of Kolkata.

Indian police said that 12 fire trucks were deployed by the fire department to extinguish the fire, and the flames were later controlled. The injured were rescued and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Among the injured were factory workers and at least two security personnel.

The video shows that firefighters were continuously using water to extinguish the burning pipes, and a large amount of thick black smoke rose from the scene.

The operator of the refining plant, Holida Petrochemical Co., Ltd., stated that the accident may be related to the theft of naphtha, and the exact cause is still under investigation.
