On June 27 local time, the US Central Command posted on social media stating that, under the direction of US President Trump, the US military carried out a new round of strikes against multiple targets in Iran that day.
The statement indicates that this strike is a direct response to Iran’s continued attacks on commercial shipping. The targets include Iran’s military surveillance infrastructure, communication systems, air defense positions, drone storage facilities, and mine-laying capabilities.
The statement indicates that the passage of commercial ships through the Hormuz Strait continues, and the U.S. military will maintain a high level of vigilance and be ready at any time.
The statement indicated that after the US military responded to the attack on the merchant ship “Changyue” on the 26th, Iran had the opportunity to abide by the ceasefire agreement, but chose not to do so. At 4:30 a.m. ET on the 27th, the Iranian military launched a one-way attack drone, which struck an oil tanker flying the Panamanian flag and carrying over 2 million barrels of crude oil.
According to the Financial Times, the UK Maritime Trade Office stated earlier on the 27th that the ship's bridge was damaged after being hit by an 'unknown projectile'.
On June 26th, the US military carried out an airstrike against Iranian military targets along the Hormuz Strait. The US Central Command stated: 'US fighter jets targeted Iranian missile and drone storage facilities, as well as coastal radar stations. The Iranian armed forces launched an unprovoked attack on civilian shipping, clearly violating the ceasefire agreement.'
The US military stated that Iran attacked a merchant ship crossing the Strait of Hormuz on the local time of the 25th. Hours before the US military's attack, U.S President Donald Trump posted a statement on the ‘RealSocial’ platform, calling Iran's actions a 'stupid breach' of the US-Iran cease-fire agreement.
On that day, Iran stated that in response to the U.S. strikes around the Strait of Hormuz, Iran had attacked U.S. military targets in the Middle East. The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also accused the U.S. of violating the agreements reached between the two sides.
