According to reports from the Beijing Daily app, on June 1st, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian hosted a regular press conference.
Japanese Asahi TV reporter asked, The New York Times reported that one of their journalists was expelled from China. What is the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs comment on this?
Lin Jian stated that The New York Times provides a platform for the Taiwanese authorities to spread separatist claims advocating for Taiwans independence. Moreover, the newspaper openly refers to the Chinese region of Taiwan as a country. This constitutes a serious violation of the one-China principle and the three joint communiques between China and the United States. The Times sends a grave signal to those who advocate for Taiwans independence. China firmly opposes such actions. The New York Times should correct its mistakes, rather than continuing to act without any remorse or in a self-willed manner.
Lin Jian said,
Lin Jian pointed out that the issues related to Chinese and American media are clear and straightforward. The root cause lies in the USs unilateral provocation, which has turned media issues into political matters. China has always provided convenience for foreign journalists to conduct interviews and live in China. In recent years, China has granted visas to many American journalists who come to China for interviews. However, Chinese journalists applying to conduct interviews in the US have rarely been approved. The US should earnestly implement the consensus reached on media issues and take concrete actions to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese journalists working and living in the US.
