According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, on June 23, 2026, Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee and Director of the State Council Foreign Affairs Office, stated at the BRICS Senior Representatives Meeting in New Delhi that the recent memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran represents a significant breakthrough. This conflict, which has lasted for over a hundred days, has severely affected the regional and international situation, and has also provided us with profound insights.
First is the importance of maintaining international rules. Any resolution to international and regional hot issues should be based on compliance with international rules. The law of the jungle may work for a while, but it is not sustainable.
The second is the importance of respecting national sovereignty. Territorial integrity and non-violation, as well as non-interference in domestic affairs of a country, are the most basic principles of international morality.
Third, the importance of establishing a new concept of security. Nations are becoming increasingly communities where fate is connected. Seeking absolute security at the expense of other nations’ security will only lead to self-destruction.
The fourth point is to grasp the importance of new forms of warfare. In recent conflicts, non-traditional wars such as information warfare and cyber warfare have become more open. The traditional and non-traditional security threats we face are intertwined, making it timely for BRICS countries to strengthen dialogue and cooperation on security matters.
