According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, on June 23, 2026, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with representatives from various countries attending the BRICS National Security Affairs Senior Representatives Conference at the Prime Minister's Office in New Delhi. During the meeting, he had a friendly exchange with Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Director of the State Foreign Affairs Office.

Modi asked Wang Yi to convey his warm regards to President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang. Modi stated that both India and China are ancient civilizations with thousands of years of friendly exchanges. For a long time, both countries have held leading and dominant positions in the world. Under the current circumstances, it is necessary for the two sides to continue their traditional friendship, maintain high-level interactions, promote practical cooperation, and safeguard the common interests of countries in the Global South. India supports China in taking over the rotating chairmanship of the BRICS group next year, and is willing to work with China to advance the development of the BRICS initiative.

Wang Yi conveyed the good wishes of the Chinese leaders to Modi. He stated that as two of the largest developing countries and important members of the Global South, China and India should set an example in promoting the unity and self-reliance of countries in the Global South. The Chinese side will continue to support India in fulfilling its role as the rotating chair of BRICS, and jointly contribute to the deepening and solidification of BRICS cooperation.
Wang Yi said that China is willing to work with India to implement the important consensus reached by the two leaders. We will continuously build trust and clear up misunderstandings, properly handle sensitive issues, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and maintain a positive trend in Sino-Indian relations. By working together to advance their respective modernization processes, we are fully in line with the fundamental interests of the people of both countries and in accordance with the general expectations of the international community.
