Chinese Ambassador Encourages US Business Involvement in Sino-US Economic Cooperation

According to the website of the Chinese Embassy in the United States, on June 17, 2026, Xie Feng, the Chinese ambassador to the United States, delivered a speech at the 2026 Annual Celebration Dinner of the U.S-China Trade Council, encouraging the American business community to be part of the new platform for Sino-US cooperation.

Xie Feng said that the Sino-US Trade Council and the Investment Council are new initiatives. Both sectors are welcome to offer suggestions and contribute to forming a joint effort with the governments of both countries, to ensure a good start and a solid foundation for Sino-US economic and trade cooperation. There are ongoing discussions regarding a reciprocal tax reduction arrangement worth 30 billion US dollars. Many American companies have expressed their concerns that the current 30 billion-dollar list is not sufficient, and they hope that all their products can be included in the list. I fully agree with this. Given the scale of Sino-US trade, it is entirely possible to extend the list and increase its scope. Doubling the amount or adding zeros would not be excessive. At the same time, reasonable concerns of Chinese companies should be addressed as soon as possible. Measures such as export controls, bilateral investment restrictions, anti-monopoly investigations, and lists of companies involved in military-related activities should not be used as tools for suppression.
