US Sanctions Cuba: China Condemns Unilateral Action

On November 5th, local time, the United States announced a new round of sanctions against Cuba. The sanctioned entities include crude oil transportation networks, state-owned entities, and suppliers to the Cuban military. The sanctions list includes two Chinese companies, which the US alleges supply electronic equipment and security devices to the Cuban military.

Regarding this, Guo Jiaqun, a spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated at a regular press conference on the 6th that China’s cooperation with Cuba is legitimate. China firmly opposes illegal unilateral sanctions and so-called “extensive jurisdiction” that are not based on international law and lack authorization from the United Nations Security Council. China also strongly opposes the US interference in undermining Sino-Cuban cooperation. China stands by Cuba in its efforts to maintain national sovereignty and resist external interference. China will take all necessary measures to firmly protect the legitimate rights and interests of domestic enterprises.
