Trump Asserts Veto Power Amidst Midterm Election Speculation

Before the voting for the US midterm elections concludes, President Trump said in a media interview on November 3 local time: "I have the final authority, which is called the 'veto power'."

When asked about the possibility of the Democrats controlling the Congress next year, Trump said that if necessary, he was prepared to veto Democratic legislation, and he was happy with the nickname “Veto Man”.

Despite this, Trump was asked about the GOP's chances of victory and remained optimistic.

He stated that regardless of the election results or the composition of Congress, he is confident in implementing his policy agenda over the next two years. He pointed out that even if Congress tries to block it, the Supreme Court has authorized his government to exercise broad administrative powers within federal government structures.

"Our president's position holds great power and can accomplish many things." Trump stated that he plans to advance his agenda in multiple federal areas next year.

Trump indicated that he might use his presidential veto power to force Democrats into reaching a bipartisan agreement. He said, “Historically, you only need to exercise the veto for several months, and then they will come to you and say, ‘We must reach an agreement.’”

Trump also stated that if the Democratic Party attempts to restrict its power through Congress, he may further expand the use of executive power.

Additionally, Trump said that over the past few weeks, he has done everything in his power to help Republican candidates across the country. He believes that his campaign efforts helped the Republicans turn the tide against what might have been a Democratic “blue wave,” making the election competition even more intense.

Analysis suggests that Trump’s remarks indicate that if the Democrats win a majority of seats in both the House and the Senate in this mid-term election, the political confrontation between the White House and Congress could intensify.

A White House source told media, “Although Democrats might win power,” Trump will still have almost unlimited authority next year in terms of trade, border issues, federal government management, and handling of U.S. foreign policy and national security.

Trump did not make any clear predictions about the outcome of the midterm elections, and mentioned that unexpected situations would occur on most election days. He replied, "Let's wait and see. Will we win? There’s a good chance. But we won’t lose face."

On the same day, Trump posted a tweet on social media, criticizing Fox News. He said that the station's ratings had dropped by nearly 30% recently, all because "they spent too much time reporting on Democrats." He angrily stated, "The drop in ratings isn’t my fault, but their fault for opposing me! This situation has happened once before, and Fox was almost bankrupt. Now it’s happening again!"

Later, a source familiar with the White House revealed that Trump was in the East Room of the White House, inviting cabinet officials and political advisors to witness the election results.

According to CNN, it can be seen from Trump’s social media posts that his mood has been very poor.

As states have completed their voting processes, the optimism among Republicans is beginning to waver. However, White House officials insist that Trump will not intervene in the election by declaring martial law or encouraging officials not to certify the election results.
