Zelenskyy Accuses Russia of Planning Attacks During US Midterm Elections

According to Fox News and Reuters, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Russia on November 2 of trying to use the US midterm elections to launch attacks against Ukraine while the world's attention was elsewhere.

On November 2, Zelenskyy posted on social media saying that Russia plans to launch a large-scale attack during the US midterm elections. "The intelligence we have indicates that Russia is preparing to carry out another large-scale attack against our country, with the main targets being energy and logistics facilities. It is assumed that tomorrow (November 3rd), the world will be focused on the US midterm elections. What happens in Ukraine, as well as the challenges we face in terms of air defense and 'Patriot' missiles, will be ignored."

Zelenskyy urged the United States and its allies to warn Russia that continued attacks on Ukraine would lead to serious economic consequences.

We absolutely cannot play games with Russia's oil or gas revenue. We must put pressure on Russia to make it choose between ending the war and other options, and we can do this. Zelensky wrote.

On November 2, Ukraine also accused Russia of using a humanitarian ceasefire facilitated by the US to consolidate Russian positions.

When asked about Ukraine's claims during a teleconference, Russian President's press secretary Peskov told reporters, "It would be better to ask such questions to our Ministry of Defense. But in this case, it can be reasonably assumed that the Ukrainian armed forces also utilized this period for redeployment. This is common practice in such situations. However, I do not know the specific details regarding the Russian side."
