Reuters reported on October 20 that Prince Harry of Britain said he hopes to reconcile with King Charles and other family members. He had fallen out with his family when he moved to the United States six years ago.
Forty-two-year-old Harry is the younger son of King Charles. In 2020, he and his wife Meghan resigned from royal duties and relocated to California. Subsequently, they made strong criticism of the British royal system, causing a major rift within the royal family.
For many years, Harry hardly spoke with his brother and crown prince William. It wasn’t until recently that the family reunited with their father. In an interview with GQ magazine, Harry, who has moved back to Britain with Meghan and their two children, said he wants to repair his relationship with his father.
Considering everything happening in the world, the most important thing is reconciliation,” he told GQ.
Harry said that he understands why people pay attention to his family situation, because people can empathize: "There can be disagreements between siblings, and there may also be breakdowns in relationships between children and their parents, or between children and one of their parents. Some people might be inspired by efforts towards reconciliation, which could help improve their own relationships."
"Some people do not wish for it to succeed. I hope it succeeds," Harry added. Harry's spokesperson stated that the comments were not aimed at William or other family members.
Harry also told GQ that although “scars will always remain,” he wants to encourage everyone to let go of the past. “For me, the world already has enough drama, and people’s lives also have enough drama. There’s no point in continuing to dwell on family issues.”
During the lengthy interview, Harry also discussed topics he had mentioned before, such as the impact of his mother, Princess Diana, who passed away when he was 12 years old, and his mental health issues.
He also talked about why he returned to Britain, claiming that he could "send his children to British schools" which "is significant to me."
He said, “I don’t know how important this is to me. I always thought that this was something we would eventually try, but now they have been learning for two weeks. They really enjoy it, and this gives them a completely different experience.”
Harry also expressed the hope that the tense relationship between him and British media can be improved—this tension was one of the reasons he initially left, and it has led to several lawsuits against the newspaper group.
He said, “I hope it will change. Some wars have already been fought, and they were necessary. But I hope we can all draw a line under this situation.”
Just as everything is happening in the world, I believe that all of us—myself, my family and some British media outlets—hope to put aside certain aspects of the past and strive for greater benefits.
