Zelenskyy Supports Freezing Conflict Lines in Peace Deal with Russia

On October 21 local time, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said in an interview with Fox News that he is willing to accept a peace agreement that freezes the conflict between Russia and Ukraine along the current de facto lines, believing this to be the realistic way to end the war.

On that day, Zelenskyy spoke with Brian Kilmead, the host of Fox & Friends on Fox News, discussing the negotiations for a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine and the possibility of a future peace agreement.

During the interview, Kielmide asked Zelensky if he would be willing to accept a peace agreement that would freeze the front lines according to the current situation, allowing Ukraine to still retain 75% or more of its territory.

Zelenskyy responded positively and said: "Now we must freeze the front lines. I believe this is a practical way to end this war."

Zelenskyy also emphasized that Ukraine needs reliable security guarantees to ensure the implementation of the ceasefire and future peace agreements. He stated that Ukraine supports diplomatic negotiations led by the United States and is willing to hold trilateral talks with the leaders of Ukraine, the United States, and Russia.

It is worth noting that the 75% mentioned by the host seems to be a general description of Ukraine retaining most of its territory, rather than an exact figure. According to statistics on the situation in the war published by the Russia Matters research project under the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University on October 14, 2026, Russia currently controls approximately 19% of Ukrainian territory, while Ukraine still has control over about 81%.
