October 20th, spokesperson Mao Ning presided over a regular press conference.
Today, a Russian journalist asked a question. This year marks the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army's Long March. Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, positively praised China's achievements in development. She also compared China's efforts to build a community with a shared future for mankind and to jointly promote the "Belt and Road" initiative as a new Long March. What is China's comment on this? What insights does the spirit of the Long March provide for China's diplomacy and development in the new era?
Mao Ning said that we have noticed the positive stance of Ms. Zhahrova. The great Long March spirit has inspired and motivated the Chinese people to overcome difficulties and achieve remarkable development accomplishments. On the new Long March path to realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, China will adhere to an independent and peaceful foreign policy, cooperate with countries around the world, including Russia, to promote peace and development, and work together to build a community with a shared future for mankind.
This year marks the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Long March. The Long March refers to the strategic retreat of the main forces of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army from various Soviet areas north and south of the Yangtze River during the Agrarian Revolutionary War, during which they fought for two years before reaching the Shaanxi-Gansu Soviet Area.
In October 1934, after the failure of the fifth anti-encirclement and suppression campaign, the main forces of the Central Red Army were forced to carry out a strategic transfer in order to escape from the encirclement and pursuit by the Nationalist army. They withdrew from the central base area and began the Long March.
The Long March is a great miracle in human history. The Red Army conducted more than 600 battles and campaigns, capturing over 700 counties. More than 430 cadres of the Red Army lost their lives, with an average age of less than 30 years. They defeated hundreds of regiments of the Nationalist army. During the campaign, they passed through 14 provinces, crossed 18 mountains, crossed 24 rivers, traversed barren grasslands, and climbed snowy mountains. In total, they traveled about 25,000 li. In October 1935, the First Front Army of the Red Army arrived at the revolutionary base in northern Shaanxi and joined forces with the Red Army there. In October 1936, the Second and Fourth Front Armies of the Red Army arrived at Huining area in Gansu and joined with the First Front Army. The meeting of the three main forces of the Red Army marked the successful conclusion of the Long March.
