Investigation Launched into Shanxi Gas Explosion

At approximately 19:29 on May 22nd, a gas explosion occurred underground at Shanxi Tongzhou Group Liushenyu Coal Industry Co., Ltd. in Qinyuan County, Changzhi City, Shanxi Province, resulting in significant casualties. In order to thoroughly implement the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping, and in accordance with the directives of Premier Li Keqiang and other central leaders, as well as relevant national laws and regulations, the State Council has established an accident investigation team. This team is led by the Ministry of Emergency Management, with participation from the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Natural Resources, the National Federation of Trade Unions, the National Energy Administration, the National Mine Safety Supervision Bureau, and the Peoples Government of Shanxi Province. The purpose of this investigation is to address the May 22nd major gas explosion incident at Shanxi Tongzhou Group Liushenyu Coal Industry Co., Ltd.

On the evening of May 27th, the investigation team into the 522 major gas explosion at Shanxi Tongzhou Groups Liushanyu Coal Industry Co., Ltd. in Shanxi Province held its first meeting. Zhang Chengzhong, head of the investigation team appointed by the State Council and Minister of Emergency Management, presided over the meeting. He briefed the team on the investigation arrangements and outlined the requirements for the work to be carried out.

Before the meeting began, all the participants stood solemnly and observed a moment of silence in memory of those who lost their lives in the May 22 major gas explosion at Shanxi Tongzhou Groups Liushanyu Coal Industry Co., Ltd.

The meeting emphasized that the accident investigation team must earnestly implement the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping, as well as the decisions and arrangements made by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council. The team should conduct thorough investigations in accordance with the principles of scientific rigor, compliance with laws and regulations, truth-seeking, and focus on practical results, as well as the principle of not letting any issues go unresolved. It is necessary to thoroughly investigate the causes of accidents, as well as the responsibilities of local authorities, industry regulators, and companies. In addition, the meeting demanded that lessons be learned from these incidents. A comprehensive review of the implementation of the eight tough measures for mine safety should be carried out. Members of the State Council Accident Investigation Team, as well as responsible officials from relevant departments of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission, attended the meeting.
