White House Press Secretary Resigns After Five Days

The new White House press secretary, Katie Zacharia, resigned just five days into her position. On October 16 local time, she posted a message on social media, expressing her gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump.

She said, “President Trump is a kind, excellent, generous, considerate, enthusiastic, and hardworking person. I truly hope that more Americans can appreciate him. No one else can make America great like him, and he continues to do so. It is my honor to work for him.”

White House Press Secretary Resigns After Five Days

According to The Washington Post, local time on October 16th, two White House officials said on Friday that Katie Zackaria had resigned, ending her brief tenure. At the time of her appointment, the West Wing of the White House was embroiled in internal conflicts, and voter dissatisfaction with the Republican Party was growing, with only a few weeks left until the midterm elections.

On Friday, just a few minutes after U.S. President Trump publicly stated that Zacaria should consider leaving her position, news of her departure was confirmed. Trump expressed his support for Zacaria personally, but expressed doubts about whether she is suitable for the position.

Trump said outside the White House to reporters: "Maybe this job is not suitable for her."

Zakaria started off poorly after being appointed to one of the most prominent positions at the White House, and quickly resigned from her post. It is very rare for a person appointed by the president to leave so soon. During her first press conference at the White House on Tuesday, she stumbled over her words, and similar situations occurred during her subsequent interviews with a number of friendly media outlets, which surprised many of Trump's allies.

While speaking to reporters, Trump complained about the media's attitude towards Zacarias. Zacarias is in controversy because she identifies herself as a lawyer, but she has not passed the California bar exam and has no license to practice law in any other state in the United States.

Trump mentioned Zacaria’s two interviews with Fox News. The White House generally considers Fox News to be a media outlet that is friendly to them.

Trump said, “I have to say that she was treated quite badly. Just two minutes ago, I told Katie, ‘Katie, you know, if you don’t want to do this job, there’s no need to force yourself.’”

He said: "I told her, 'Honestly speaking, if I were you, I would reconsider.'"
