White House Press Secretary Leavit will resign at the end of this month.
According to the US edition of The Mirror, on August 16th local time, U.S. President Donald Trump said in an interview with Fox News reporter Alexis McAdam that Levitt is irreplaceable, and that 'she has always done an excellent job.'
He also joked, “But I find that she actually loves her child more than Trump, and I’m worried about that.”
Then, when asked who would succeed Leviett, Trump evaded the question. He suggested to Mike Pence: "Why don't you do it?"
On August 12th, Trump posted on social media that Levitt would resign in order to have more time to spend with her children. Levitt is expecting a daughter in May this year, along with a two-year-old son. Trump stated that she will continue to serve as an external advisor in the future.
Trump wrote: "Caroline will become one of my top external advisors in the future, and also an influential voice within the Republican Party. We will work to break historical patterns and win the midterms decisively."
Livet stated in a long social media post that this job was 'a honor and adventure of her life'. However, after returning to work this summer after her maternity leave, she decided to leave the Trump administration.
She wrote, “In fact, since returning to the White House after my daughter’s birth, I have felt that if I continued to devote the time, energy, and focus required for the position of White House Press Secretary, I would not be able to be the best mother for my two young children. For this reason, I finally made this decision that left me with mixed feelings: leaving the White House and starting a new chapter in my life.”
According to The New York Post, the White House has not announced a replacement for Leavit yet, but it is speculated that Steven Cheung, the director of the White House Communications Office, is the most likely candidate.
