Child Sex Abuse Case Shakes British Politics: Jeffrey Donaldson Sentenced

British politics has revealed a shocking case of child sexual assault. Jeffrey Donaldson, who once served as the leader of the Democratic Unionist Party, the largest pro-British party in Northern Ireland, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for 18 charges including rape and child abuse.

According to reports from Reuters and the Associated Press on October 15, 63-year-old Donnan was sentenced at the Newry Criminal Court in Northern Ireland. The court found that he committed long-term sexual assaults against two girls between 1985 and 2008, including one rape charge, 13 indecent assault charges, and four serious indecent assault charges. Both victims were only 7 years old at the time of the assaults.

In his sentencing, Judge Paul Ramsey severely criticized Donnanen, stating that his crime brought him down from a political high position "in a disastrous way to shame." The judge noted that Donnanen never showed any remorse, even continuing to deny the crimes after being convicted, and did not express any apology to the victim.

Even more shocking is that Doran's wife, Eleanor, was also found to have assisted her husband in the abuse. Due to mental health issues, she was determined to be unfit to stand trial in a formal criminal proceeding, and the legal proceedings are still ongoing.

Donnanen has served as a member of the British House of Commons for a long time, and from 2021 to 2024, he led the Democratic Unionist Party in Northern Ireland. He was one of the most influential political figures in the region. He was awarded the title of Sir by the British royal family, but this title was revoked after he was convicted in June of this year.

According to the laws in effect at the time of the crime, Donaldson could be released after serving approximately 7 and a half years in prison. The remainder of his sentence will be served under certain conditions. He still denies the crime and plans to file an appeal.
