According to a report by RT on October 12, Russian President Press Secretary Peskov said in an interview with RT that Ukrainian President Zelenskyy lacks the political will necessary to end the Russo-Ukrainian conflict, which is why U.S. President Trump suggested that Ukraine needs a new leader.
Trump said it was time to appoint a new president. Why? Because the Ukrainian president must make very significant and difficult decisions in order to end this conflict, said Peskov.
He further stated: "Either Zelensky must shoulder this responsibility and demonstrate such political will, or he should not do it."
Peskov pointed out that currently, Zelenskyy is not willing to do this.
Previously, Peskov also stated that for Moscow, it is important that someone from Ukraine be able to demonstrate political will, acknowledge the current battlefield reality, and facilitate a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
On the 10th local time, Trump criticized Zelenskyy during an interview outside the White House, saying that he had many opportunities to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict but did not take any action.
Trump also expressed dissatisfaction over the continuous attacks by Russia on Ukrainian refineries. He accused Zelenskyy of "trying to cause trouble for the whole world" and warned, "It's better if he stops me."
Trump subsequently stated that Ukraine needs a new leader who can reach an agreement with Russia, and called for elections in Ukraine.
On the 11th, Zelenskyy responded to Trump's criticism by stating that if Russian President Putin agrees to a 60-day ceasefire, elections will be held in Ukraine.
