According to The Washington Post, on October 10, U.S. President Donald Trump suggested considering renaming more waters.
Trump said at a rally in Clarksville, Tennessee, on that day: "We have a bay, we have beautiful lakes. Now some people say we need another river. I don’t want to change the name of the Hudson River; that would be too much of an overstep. So, we need a river, we need an ocean."
So I was thinking, either it's the Atlantic Ocean or the Pacific Ocean," Trump said. "We could call it 'Trump Ocean' or 'American Ocean' something like that."
"Before I step down, I think we should have a vast ocean, and we also need a great river." He said.
Trump plans to rename the Gulf of Mexico as “American Bay” in 2025, and Lake Ontario as “American Lake” in August 2026. In September, he also proposed renaming New Mexico as “New American State”. Last week, he released a video stating that whether this change will be implemented depends on the residents of New Mexico. “I won’t push this issue, but many people really like it.”
