According to CNN, after the United States launched a new round of sanctions against Iran, on June 11, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard of Iran announced that due to the deteriorating security situation in the region, the Hormuz Strait would be closed to all vessels, including oil tankers and commercial ships. Any vessel attempting to cross the strait would become a target of attack.
The United States Central Command insists that a large number of merchant ships still pass through the strait normally, but this claim has been denied by Iran.
