According to CNN, a U.S. official said on Monday that Trump is willing to relax sanctions against Iran and unfreeze frozen funds as part of the final agreement, provided that Tehran makes 'substantial progress' on the nuclear issue.
The official said that the United States is ‘engaging in active and constructive discussions through a mediator’, but he pointed out that no agreement will be reached unless the nuclear issue is resolved.
Trump rejected Iran's latest proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, calling it "unacceptable".
According to the American news site Axios, Trump is expected to have more talks with Iran this week.
The official said that the United States is led in negotiations by Presidential Envoy Weterkov, Trump’s son-in-law Kushner, Vice President Wilson, and Secretary of State Rubio.
Trump also denied that he had ever “proposed” any concessions to Iran, and said on social media that he “didn’t give them anything!”
According to this official, Iran has expressed a willingness to maintain a flexible approach on the nuclear issue—however, no consensus has been reached regarding the timing for fulfilling the relevant commitments.
