Iran: Impeachment Calls Amidst Indirect US-Iran Talks

According to reports by the Iranian Tasnim News Agency on October 6, Mohammad Ramezji, a member of the Presidium of the Iranian Islamic Council, stated: 'The impeachment request against Foreign Minister Alagheri has been registered in the parliamentary system, but it has not yet been formally submitted to the Presidium of the Parliament.'

He added, “According to reports, a member of parliament submitted this request, but it has not yet been submitted to the chairman of the legislative council.”

On September 22, U.S. Special Ambassador Weterkov and Trump's son-in-law Kushner held indirect talks with Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Al-Khutibi during the United Nations General Assembly in New York, through mediation by Qatar.

According to Iranian sources, this move was 'at the request of the US side'. Iran agreed to Witkoff's meeting request due to the need to 'communicate Iran's conditions for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz'.

It is reported that the conditions for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz include immediate lifting of the naval blockade, immediate unfreezing of all Iranian assets, and ending the wars on various regional fronts.

According to a report by Reuters on the 22nd, a senior Iranian official stated that the Iranian delegation attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York has full authority to resume diplomatic relations with the United States.

However, critics within Iran questioned whether indirect talks between Araqzai and US officials exceeded the authorized scope of authority, prompting calls for their impeachment proceedings to be initiated.

On September 28th, U.S. President Donald Trump said that the United States and Iran had engaged in indirect communication through a mediator on that day.

According to the American Axios news site, on the morning of the 28th, the White House initially believed that negotiations with Iran might progress later in the day. However, by the afternoon, the negotiations between the two sides had clearly reached a deadlock.

On the evening of the 28th, following orders from Rubio, the United States Permanent Mission to the United Nations notified the Iranian Permanent Mission to the United Nations that the delegation led by Iranian Foreign Minister Alaaghiyeh must leave New York immediately.

A few hours later, the Iranian delegation, including Alaghizi, went to the airport. At 1:20 a.m. local time on the 29th, they took a flight from New York to Doha.

Another source confirmed that the US did indeed request the Iranian delegation to leave, but stated that Al-Aragchi had originally planned to depart for Tehran on the evening of the 28th.
