Hamas Leader Ali Amudi Survives Assassination Attempt by Israel

According to an article in the Israeli Times dated October 5th, Gazi Hamad, a senior official of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), told Saudi Al Arabiya TV that Ali Amudi, the leader of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, survived the assassination attempt launched by Israel several days ago.

From October 2nd to 3rd, local time, Israel carried out air strikes on Gaza City. The Israel Defense Forces stated that the target of these air strikes was Amudi, who was located in a residential building used for terrorist activities. The Israeli military took measures to "minimize harm to civilians as much as possible."

However, the Palestinian side stated that the Israeli airstrikes resulted in the death of five people, including several women. Hamas condemned the Israeli attacks, calling them part of Israel’s “continuing policy of genocide and destruction,” indicating that Israel still attempts to use various methods to “target and harm the Palestinian people.”

Public information shows that Amudi was born in Khan Yunis, the Gaza Strip in 1975. He actively participated in Hamas activities in the 1990s and was arrested by the Israeli army. While in Israeli prisons, he developed a close relationship with the late Hamas leader Yehya Sinwar. In 2011, Amudi was released as part of an exchange of prisoners.

From 2021 to 2023, Amudi served as the head of Hamas’ media department. Al Jazeera reported that after several high-ranking Hamas leaders, including Sinwar, were killed in Israeli attacks, Amudi became one of Hamas’ key figures. In July this year, after Khalil Ghalili was elected president of Hamas’ political council, Amudi actually took control of Hamas’ affairs in the Gaza Strip.
