According to The Guardian, Pope Leo XIV will visit France from September 25th to 28th.
According to reports, when Leo XIV arrived at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, the French President welcomed him at the airport.
On that day, Leo XIV will meet with French government officials, representatives of civil society, and diplomatic missions at the Élysée Palace.
He also plans to visit the UNESCO headquarters in Paris and give a speech on artificial intelligence. After that, he will visit the restored Notre-Dame de Paris. This cathedral was destroyed by fire in 2019 and reopened in 2024. UNESCO listed it as a World Heritage Site in 1991.
During this visit, Leo XIV will also preside over Masses in Paris, Lourdes, and Metz.
Leo XIV was originally named Robert Preval. He had previously served as a Cardinal. His ancestors included French immigrants who went to the United States. It is worth mentioning that the last pope to make an official state visit to France was Benedict XVI in 2008.
