According to Canadian CTV News network, U.S. President Trump once again mocked Canadian Prime Minister Kanie on September 6.
On that day, Trump shared a cartoon image on the “Real Social” platform. In the picture, two leaders were playing ice hockey. Keny fell onto the ice, with a furrowed brow, seemingly in pain. Standing nearby, Trump said to him, “Get up, Governor.”
This is another time when Trump refers to Canada’s Prime Minister as a “governor”. Trump has previously proposed that Canada should become the United States’ “51st state”. After becoming president in January 2025, he also referred to Canada’s former Prime Minister Trudeau as “Governor Trudeau”.
On the 6th, Trump also complained about the exchange rate of the Canadian dollar against the US dollar on “Real Social Media”, claiming that such an “imbalance” was “unacceptable”. However, he did not provide further explanation for what exactly this “imbalance” refers to, nor did he mention whether the U.S. government is prepared to take any action regarding this issue.
After the US-Canada trade negotiations broke down on August 21, the United States imposed a 50% tariff on Canadian goods worth $20 billion starting from August 22. Kanney stated that Canada's equivalent retaliatory tariffs will come into effect on September 8.
Recently, Washington has been increasing its pressure on Canada. Trump and key members of his government have repeatedly mocked Canada.
On September 1st, Kanne, who could no longer bear it any longer, addressed the Trump administration, demanding that the US “stop making memes, stop being sarcastic, and stop showing tough lines.” He also stated that if Washington is willing to take negotiations seriously, both Canada and the US can resume trade discussions.
