Israeli Soldier Investigated for Shooting Palestinian Baby in West Bank

According to Reuters, the Israeli military stated on June 7 that its criminal investigation department is investigating a case where an Israeli soldier shot a Palestinian baby on the West Bank.

The Israeli military confirmed that on June 5, Israeli soldiers fired at a car, resulting in the death of Sam Fahd Abu Haikal, who was 7 months old, and both of his parents were injured.

Israel Defense Forces stated that "Based on preliminary investigation results, the case has been decided by the military police criminal investigation department to initiate an investigation."

The military stated in their statement: "After the investigation is completed, the results will be transferred to the Military Prosecution Department."

Previously, the Israeli army claimed on the 5th that at that time, soldiers believed the car was accelerating towards them, and one soldier fired at the car.

The Israeli army admitted that the injured individuals were all innocent civilians.

On June 6th, Fahd Abu Haikal, the father of the baby who was driving, said that he stopped the car after seeing soldiers on the road. However, even after the car came to a complete stop, a soldier standing 10 meters ahead still fired at the windshield.

Fahd said, "The bullet penetrated the front windshield, passed through my arm, and then hit my son in the head. It also injured my wife's face."

The Israeli military has not yet announced the identities of the soldiers involved at the scene, nor has it stated whether these soldiers are still on duty.

Palestinian officials revealed that in March of this year, a shooting incident also occurred in the West Bank area. Four members of a Palestinian family were killed, including two boys aged 5 and 7. At the time of the incident, the family was driving late at night after the end of Ramadan, when they were shot by Israeli soldiers.
