According to a report by USA Today on September 5th, recently, U.S. President Donald Trump acknowledged that the construction projects he is pursuing in Washington D.C., such as the Arc de Triumph, were meant to create a ‘monument’ for himself. He also stated that after he leaves office, no one will continue to build monuments in his honor.
When asked about commemorative buildings such as the "Arc de Triomphe" in the capital, Trump made the above statement to the magazine "New York". He said, "After I leave, no one will do these things anymore. After I leave this place, no one will ever do them again."
Despite the ongoing controversy surrounding the related projects, Trump said, “The people should be grateful for this.” He added, “Many people advised me not to accept this interview. But I am proud of the projects I am working on.”
According to CNN, Trump has invested a great deal of effort in trying to impose his style and taste on the White House and Washington D.C.
Since taking office, Trump has personally involved himself in several construction projects, including spending $600 million to build a banquet hall on the East Side of the White House, constructing a 76-meter-high "Trump Turnbull Gate," and renovating the reflecting pool at the Lincoln Memorial with an expenditure of $14.8 million. However, all of these projects have faced legal challenges.
Additionally, Trump attempted to have his name added to the Kennedy Performing Arts Center, and named the venue "Donald J. Trump President Square". The related resolution is still embroiled in legal proceedings and has not yet taken effect.
