On the afternoon of September 2nd, local time, President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan visited the Great Egyptian Museum accompanied by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and his wife Mistress Ebtisal.
On the Jissa Plateau, the millennia-old pyramid complex complements the magnificent Egyptian Museum.
When Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan arrived at the museum, the Sisi couple warmly welcomed them. The heads of state of both countries entered the exhibition hall together. They took a group photo in front of the statue of Ramses II and listened to introductions about the museum and the history of ancient Egypt. After climbing the escalator, the heads of state admired the exquisite stone statues, inscriptions on columns, and the spires of temples with great interest. Then, they stood by the window at the viewing platform and gazed into the distance at the pyramid complex. The heads of state then entered the exhibition hall of Tutankhamun, where they viewed precious exhibits such as the pharaoh's throne, gold masks, and royal chariots.
Xi Jinping pointed out that both China and Egypt are ancient civilizations and major countries of world heritage. These two civilizations have been interacting over time, continuously writing chapters of friendship between the people of both countries for generations. Both sides should promote a civilization outlook that emphasizes equality, mutual learning, dialogue, and inclusiveness. They should implement global civilization initiatives and jointly contribute to the inclusive coexistence and mutual exchange of different civilizations, thereby gathering more forces from various civilizations to advance the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
Sessi thanked President Xi for sending a letter of congratulations when the Grand Egyptian Museum opened last year. He said that both the ancient Egyptian civilization and the Chinese civilization share the characteristics of "inclusiveness and pluralism," which highly resonate with the concept of global civilization initiative proposed by President Xi. Egypt is willing to strengthen cultural exchanges with China, promote mutual learning between civilizations, and make the world more harmonious and inclusive.
