Young Japan Parliamentarians Plan Trip to China

According to Japan's Asahi Shimbun, Yutaka Moriyama, the president of the Cross-Party Japanese-China Friendship Parliamentarians' League, composed of Japanese parliamentarians from various parties, revealed on March 3 that they plan to form a delegation of young parliamentarians to visit China, with the goal of doing so within September.

According to Yutaka Moriyama, the delegation to China is planned to be composed of young members from various political parties. If this visit to China actually takes place, they are currently coordinating with whom they will meet with Chinese officials during the visit.

In November last year, Yoshihiko Koo described in her testimony before the parliament that the so-called “Taiwan affairs” could constitute a “situation of existential crisis” that would allow Japan to exercise its collective self-defense rights. Since then, relations between Japan and China have rapidly deteriorated, and exchanges among Japanese and Chinese parliamentarians have also come to a standstill.

Last month, members of the Chinese Reform Alliance, including Congressman Ito, visited China under the pretext of "individual visits to China". The Japanese side hopes to use exchanges among young parliamentarians as a starting point to find opportunities to improve relations between the two countries.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiaqun said on the 3rd that some insightful people in Japan are deeply concerned about the current Sino-Japanese relations and hope to make efforts to improve bilateral relations. As long as Japan adheres to the four political documents between China and Japan, maintains friendly relations with China, and values Sino-Japanese relations, we are willing to communicate with them and enhance mutual understanding and trust. We urge the Japanese politicians to listen to and take into account the rational voices within their country, and to take practical actions to create the necessary conditions for normal Sino-Japanese exchanges.
