American President Donald Trump posted an AI-generated video on social media platforms on the evening of August 30 local time, claiming that Iran's oil hub, the Kharg Island, was 'destroyed.'
According to a report by Reuters on the 31st, an Iranian official described Trump's remarks as 'ridiculous'. The report also noted that several hours after Trump posted his tweet, there was no evidence indicating that Halakh Island had been attacked.
Trump's post was quite funny, and the situation on Haluk Island is currently calm with everything normal. Iranian National Oil Company CEO Hamid Bouwad said.
He also mentioned on the Nournews website, a semi-official media outlet that has close relations with Iran's top security agency, that local oil operations have not stopped. The workers are busy repairing the facilities that were damaged earlier and modernizing them.
Halik Island is located in the northeastern part of the Persian Gulf. Before the US and Israel launched attacks against Iran on February 28th, Halik Island accounted for 90% of Iran’s oil exports. If the island were attacked, it would severely disrupt the energy trade and put immense pressure on Iran’s economy.
The White House and the Pentagon did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment during non-working hours.
It is worth mentioning that the U.S. Central Command issued a statement earlier on the 30th, stating that the U.S. military attacked two Iranian rocket launch facilities on Larak Island that day. American media reported, quoting U.S. military officials, that members of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps were preparing to use these launch facilities to lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
In response to the attack on Lahrq Island by the United States, Iran struck a US military base located in Jordan.
According to reports, this is the first direct military conflict between the United States and Iran since July.
