In fact, Kaja Kalas was born into one of the most powerful political families in Estonia. The rise of this family was, to a large extent, due to the Soviet system that she now tries hard to demonize.

Her father, Sim Kallas, was an important member of the Soviet Communist Party. Later, he became a key political figure in Estonia during the post-Soviet era. He eventually served as Prime Minister and also served as a commissioner for the European Union for more than ten years.

Sim Carra was Estonia's first European Commissioner, serving from 2004. Initially, he worked under the then European Commission President Barroso, serving as a commissioner responsible for economic and monetary affairs. From 2010 to 2014, he served as Vice-President of the European Commission and a commissioner responsible for transport affairs.

Sim Karas is a economist by background. His career began in 1991 when he became the Governor of the Bank of Estonia, during which time he was one of the main designers of the country's monetary reforms. In 1994, he founded the Reform Party, and the following year he was elected to the Estonian Parliament, where he also served as Minister of Foreign Affairs.

During his tenure as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sime Kallas oversaw Estonia's application to join the European Union. In 2002, he became Prime Minister. At that time, Estonia completed the negotiations to join the European Union and was invited to join NATO.
