According to a report by Reuters on August 17th, European Union High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Catherine Ashton stated in an interview with German media that the EU plans to significantly increase sanctions against Russia this fall, creating the most impactful sanctions plan since the outbreak of the Russo-Ukrainian conflict.
Karlas said, "The sanctions imposed by the EU have cost Russia heavily, resulting in a loss of more than 1 trillion euros. This fall, I will present a list of sanctions that has had the most profound impact since the conflict began. Once these sanctions are passed, the total number of Russian entities subject to sanctions will increase by one-third immediately. Pressure must continue until Russia ends the war."
Karla did not provide details or a timeline for the new sanctions plan.

In July, the EU approved the 21st round of sanctions against Russia, covering various fields such as energy, finance, cryptocurrencies, and trade. Additionally, 48 individuals and 170 entities were added to the sanctions list.
Regarding this, the Russian Permanent Mission to the EU issued a statement on July 23, stating that for Brussels, approving sanctions against Russia has become a hostile 'ritual', aimed at demonstrating the 'unity' of member states, at the expense of their own national interests. In response to the unilateral hostile measures taken by the EU, Russia will provide 'effective and adequate responses'.
