According to the Russian newspaper 'Moscow Communist Youth' on August 21, 83-year-old Igor Laptchev, a retired major general of the Russian Federal Security Service, died in his apartment in Moscow. Russian officials have not confirmed the exact cause of Laptchev's death, but a source revealed that Laptchev committed suicide.
On the afternoon of the 20th local time, Lapiev was found dead in an apartment on Ulica Gorkogo Krasnosseliskaya in Moscow. According to sources familiar with the matter, Lapiev was shot in the head.
As of now, the Russian government has not confirmed any reports regarding the cause of Laputov's death.

Public information indicates that Lapiev was born in 1942 and graduated from the Moscow Menzhikov Chemical Technology School. He joined the Soviet State Security Committee (KGB) in the 1970s, where he was responsible for overseeing matters related to the defense industry and participated in Soviet military operations in Afghanistan.
After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Lapiev worked for the Russian Federal Security Service, specializing in information security. In the late 1990s, he became the Deputy Minister of the Russian Federal Tax Service, responsible for the development of information systems.
Since 1998, Lapitov has been involved in the communication industry. He served as the chairman of the board of the communication technology company Informtekhnika. This company primarily supplies communication equipment to the Russian defense department, the Federal Security Service, and federal government agencies. In 2004, Russian President Putin awarded Lapitov with an award.
