Japanese PMs Defense Against Criticism Sparks Netizen Outrage

Recently, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe posted lengthy messages on social media platform X, trying to defend herself against the doubts she faces.

On August 21st, Kaisho Masami posted on social media, quoting former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and content from the "Analects."

"I cannot help but have a certain level of criticism in my awakening... I am going all out," Gao Shi wrote, "However, 'People without trust cannot stand' — if the national people do not trust us, then the nation and politics will be unable to stand."

Japan's Asahi News stated that this statement is seen as a response by Gao Shi to the declining support rate of the cabinet.

The content cited by Gao Shi comes from a conversation in the Analects of Confucius, where Confucius discussed strategies for governing the state with his disciple Zigong. This was done in response to questions surrounding his defamatory videos, and it served to emphasize that he had nothing to do with those accusations.

According to previous reports by Japanese media, during the 2025 Party President election and the 2026 House of Representatives elections, the Komeito camp hired people to produce videos that spread negative information about their competitors and opposition party candidates through social media.

The Japanese magazine "Shukan Bunshun" pointed out that the key figure behind this "smearing campaign" is Koshima's secretary, Koshida Mitsuhiro.

However, Gao's clarification did not convince the Japanese people.

In the comments section of this long article, Japanese netizens expressed strong disapproval. “Stop talking nonsense. Just summon Kimura or the relevant people to the parliament for questioning,” “ resign quickly,” “Stop wandering around on X. Why not hold a press conference instead?”

Some netizens also mentioned that Hitoshi Akane, the Japanese president of the International Criminal Court (ICC), has been subject to sanctions from the United States. It is worth noting that so far, the ICC and Akane have received support from the United Nations and many countries. However, Takashi Takahashi expressed his "great regret" regarding this situation.

"This netizen directly stated: 'Even the core of Japanese nationals cannot protect this prime minister; such a Prime Minister has no justification for existence.'"

According to information from Kansai Television, Gao has been posting long articles on social media for several days in recent times, promoting her "work achievements" or defending against criticisms of her economic and other policies. From August 1st to 18th alone, she posted 47 articles on X, each of which was quite lengthy, with some exceeding one thousand words. Analysis suggests that these actions indicate Gao's anxiety.

Since July, the approval rating of Minister Koike early-morning cabinet has continued to decline.

According to a poll by The Yomiuri Newspaper, the support rate for Governor Takahashi's cabinet dropped sharply from 69% in June to 57%, a decrease of 12 percentage points. This marks the lowest level since the governor took office. The disapproval rate rose to 34%.

According to a report by Nikkei Chinese Network on August 21, it is widely believed within the Japanese government and the ruling party that the Koizumi cabinet will undergo its first reshuffle and personnel changes at the high level of the Liberal Democratic Party in mid-to-late September. Yomiuri Shimbun also previously analyzed that Koizumi intends to use these personnel changes to reverse the decline in his popularity.
