On August 16th, local time, U.S. President Trump posted a statement on “Truth Social”, stating that he welcomed the recent signing of joint defense agreements between Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan.
Trump wrote, "I am very pleased to see Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan have finally signed the 'Muslim Joint Defense Agreement for Mecca'. This indicates that the Middle East is moving towards unity, and countries will eventually be able to defend themselves in a more effective manner. Congratulations to the leaders of these three countries. This is a significant, bold, and important step—terrific!"
Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan's leaders signed the 'Mecca Common Defense Agreement' in Mecca, Saudi Arabia on the 7th. According to a joint statement issued by the three countries, the agreement aims to strengthen the collective deterrence against any aggression. It also stipulates that an armed attack against any of the three countries will be considered an attack against all three countries. The agreement will also promote enhanced defense cooperation among the three countries in various fields.
Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishrat Hussain stated on the 8th that the agreement is 'not directed at any other country', and will not replace the existing bilateral or multilateral security commitments among the three countries.
