Colombias President Requests Tariff Suspension After Earthquake

On the 15th local time, Colombian President Ivory Delgado Espaillat posted a message on X platform, stating that after a 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck the country, he had requested from US President Donald Trump to "suspend tariffs on Colombian goods".

De la EspiƱa said that he had a 10-minute conversation with Trump. Trump expressed his condolences to the victims of the earthquake and offered support to the Colombian families affected by the disaster.

De La Esprea said that he made this request 'in order to provide some relief to our business owners, who are facing difficult times due to the impact of the earthquake'.

On the 10th local time in western Colombia, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake occurred. As of the morning of the 15th, the death toll has reached 294, and more than 3,900 people have been injured.

According to Bloomberg, the U.S. tariffs on most Colombian goods were raised from 10% to 12.5% at the end of July, although some products were exempt from taxation.
