On August 15, according to CCTV news reports, it was learned from the Chinese Consulate General in Denpasar that three Chinese tourists suffered minor injuries in the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Indonesia. All of them are currently recovering well. It is understood that one of the Chinese tourists accidentally hit a wall with his head during the emergency evacuation process after the earthquake due to panic. The other two tourists suffered sprains in their waists.
According to a news report on the cover story, Chinese tourists in Kempo, Indonesia revealed that there are many Chinese tourists in the area, with no casualties. Currently, going out to sea is prohibited, and flights have returned to normal.
The China Earthquake Network officially reported that a magnitude 7.7 earthquake occurred at 5:58 on August 15 in the waters near Flores Island in Indonesia, at a location with latitude 8.40 degrees south and longitude 121.40 degrees east. The epicenter was about 20 kilometers deep. A tsunami warning was immediately issued locally, and tsunami waves were detected in many areas, with the highest wave reaching 0.94 meters. The warning has now been lifted. As of 11:00 on August 15 in Indonesia's central time zone, 111 aftershocks have been recorded.
According to Indian analysis, this earthquake was caused by the activity of the Phlereses arcuate reverse fault. It is the second major earthquake of magnitude 7 or higher in this region in over 30 years. Latest data released by the Indonesian National Search and Rescue Agency shows that as of 18:30 Indonesia time (19:30 local time in the quake zone), the death toll from the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara Province has risen to 40, with another 50 people injured.
Following the earthquake, the Chinese Consulate General in Denpasar issued an announcement immediately, reminding Chinese citizens in the consulate area, especially tourists in the Rabuanbahjao area of Eastern Nusa Tenggara Province, to be highly vigilant. They should pay close attention to local earthquake warning information and disaster prevention alerts, be cautious of aftershocks and tsunami risks, and stay away from the coast.
