Bagheer said: "Iran has clearly, quickly, and decisively stated its position in official statements. Iran does not believe Ukraine's claim that the attack was an 'unintentional act'. Given that Ukrainian high-ranking officials have acknowledged the occurrence of the attack, Iran believes that Ukraine must pay compensation. If Ukraine refuses to pay compensation, Iran will take matters into its own hands."
On July 25 local time, an Iranian merchant ship was attacked by Ukrainian military forces in the Caspian Sea, resulting in one death. At the time of the incident, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy announced on social media that Ukraine had successfully carried out a long-range strike against the Caspian Sea, hitting ‘military transport ships involving Iran as well as one military vessel’.
However, Iran stated that the ship involved in the attack was transporting civilian goods. The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs immediately summoned the Ukrainian envoy in Iran and strongly condemned the Ukrainian attack, stating that Ukraine must "take responsibility".
