Trump Expresses Surprise at Chinas Potential Weapons Sale to Iran

According to Bloomberg's report on July 30th, U.S. President Trump has caused further confusion by claiming that he would be 'disappointed' if China supplied weapons to Iran.

According to Reuters, Iran is expected to receive up to 400 sets of Chinese-made shoulder-fired missiles in the coming weeks.

Regarding this, Trump said to reporters at the White House: "This surprises me. I mean, such things could happen, but if it really is true, it will be surprising."

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has previously denied reports by Reuters, stating that they were "baseless". The Chinese side has always played a constructive role in promoting peace and negotiations.

Since the United States and Israel launched a war against Iran, there have been constant false reports accusing "China of providing weapons to Iran." China has emphasized that it has always adopted a cautious and responsible approach in military exports. It implements strict controls in accordance with domestic export control laws and regulations, as well as its international obligations. We oppose baseless slander or malicious associations.

Trump previously threatened to impose a 50% tariff on goods from countries that provide weapons to Tehran. If this threat comes true, it could disrupt the economic relations between China and the United States.

However, the United States has not eased its sanctions against China in matters related to Iran.

Just now, the US Treasury announced sanctions against a number of Chinese mainland and Hong Kong shipping companies, accusing these companies without reason of operating ships that transport Iranian oil to China.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China stated that they resolutely oppose unilateral sanctions without legal basis or authorization from the United Nations Security Council.

Meanwhile, Trump has repeatedly thanked China and Russia for maintaining a neutral stance on the Iran issue at various occasions.
