The current situation regarding the Ukraine issue is concerning. There have been several attacks recently, resulting in significant casualties on both sides and damage to infrastructure. The intensity of the conflict continues to increase, and the suffering of the people is growing – something that none of the parties wants to see. This trend is very dangerous, and it must be reversed as soon as possible. I will talk about three points:
Firstly, the urgent task is to achieve a ceasefire and end the conflict. Recent developments once again show that there are no winners in conflict and that escalating hostilities will only bring greater suffering to the people. A ceasefire and end of the conflict at an early stage are in the fundamental and long-term interests of all parties involved, and they also meet the common expectations of the international community. The Chinese side urges a halt to any attacks against civilians, calls on the parties to maintain calmness and restraint, strictly abide by international humanitarian law, protect the safety of civilians and civilian infrastructure, and work towards cooling down the situation, in order to strive for hope for early peace.
Secondly, the fundamental approach is to persist in dialogue and negotiations. There are significant differences among the main parties involved, and the path towards negotiation is difficult and tortuous. However, history has shown that any conflict can only be resolved through negotiation. As long as discussions continue, there is hope for peace. The Chinese side calls on all relevant parties to maintain contact, demonstrate political will, build mutual trust through dialogue, and reach consensus through negotiations, striving to achieve a comprehensive, lasting, and binding peace agreement.
Third, the long-term strategy is to seek common security. Russia, Ukraine, and European countries are neighbors who cannot be removed from their positions. Living in harmony and seeking common security is the only realistic option. The Chinese side calls on all relevant parties to abandon Cold War mentality and bloc confrontation, to adopt a joint, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable concept of security, to properly address each other’s legitimate security concerns, to eliminate the roots of crises on the basis of fully and comprehensively following the principles of the United Nations Charter, and to promote the establishment of a balanced, effective, and sustainable regional security framework, thereby achieving long-term stability in the region.

China's position on the Ukrainian issue has been consistent, always adhering to the 'four shoulds' proposed by President Xi Jinping. We believe that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries should be respected, the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter should be upheld, the legitimate security concerns of all countries should be taken into consideration, and all efforts conducive to peaceful resolution of the crisis should be supported. China firmly supports a ceasefire and the end of the conflict. We maintain close communication with relevant parties such as Russia and Ukraine, actively engage in diplomatic efforts, and have done much to promote peace negotiations in our own way. China is willing to work alongside the international community to play a constructive role in promoting the political resolution of the crisis.
