On July 28th, local time, the United States Central Command issued a statement on social media platform X, announcing an agreement with the UAE to establish the first bilateral ‘task force’ focused on accelerating the development of military artificial intelligence applications.
The statement indicates that the joint task force ‘Talon Synapse’ formed by the United States and the UAE is scheduled to be officially launched in the coming weeks. This team, stationed in Abu Dhabi, will consist of approximately 20 Americans and UAE nationals with expertise in AI, data, and cybersecurity.
U.S. Central Command Commander Brad Cope said: "This will be a historic milestone. We will work hand in hand with one of our most powerful regional partners to rapidly deliver advanced AI technologies to our troops. Both we and our UAE partner are committed to adopting AI applications to promote rapid and large-scale innovation."
The statement said that Cooper discussed the possibility of forming a joint task force with Sheikh Taher Nordin bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE's National Security Advisor, last year. It is expected that the task force will focus on the use of AI in intelligence support, protecting critical infrastructure, and monitoring regional security environments.
