According to The New York Times, the Pentagon announced on the 22nd that there were 18 American military deaths in the Iran-American conflict. However, the Pentagon downgraded this number to 14 the next day (the 23rd), with 7 of them being classified as combat casualties.
Three military officials revealed that the reason for the data changes is that three American soldiers who died in Jordan and one American soldier who died in northern Iraq all died after the temporary ceasefire between the United States and Iran was announced by President Trump in April. Therefore, their deaths are no longer included in the list of American casualties in the war against Iran.
Meanwhile, Joel Waldez, the acting press secretary for the U.S. Department of Defense, attributed the data changes to a “temporary technical issue” on the website, stating that the related issues will be resolved soon.
